Gluten Free Asian Recipes: The Best Gluten-free Food

If you are on a gluten free diet you may be constantly wondering which of your favorite Asian recipes are safe. Today we talk all about Gluten Free Asian Recipes.

    gluten free asian recipes

It is unfortunate for those on a gluten free diet that a lot of Asian cooking uses ingredients that are not safe for those with celiac disease and or a gluten intolerance. The good news is that there are plenty of ingredients that can be found gluten free (even if they aren’t always traditionally gluten free).

Gluten Free Asian Recipes : Sauces

Soy Sauce: Regular soy sauce is not gluten free. The primary ingredient is is wheat that has been fermented. Options for substitute soy sauce in Asian cuisine or when you go out is to bring your own gluten free soy sauce. This can be substituted with gluten free Tamari as well as coconut aminos. Coconut aminos are naturally gluten free, and are so similar in their taste to soy sauce that it is nearly impossible to tell the difference. So remember, good news, a gluten-free substitute is available.
Oyster Sauce: Oyster sauce is a popular condiment and flavoring commonly used in Chinese and other Asian cuisines. It is made from oysters, which are simmered in water until their essence is extracted. This essence is then combined with sugar, salt, and sometimes other flavorings like soy sauce or MSG to enhance the taste.

Hoisin Sauce: Hoisin sauce is a thick, dark, and flavorful condiment commonly used in Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine. It is made from a combination of several ingredients, including soybeans, sugar, garlic, vinegar, and various spices. The main ingredient that gives hoisin sauce its distinctive flavor is fermented soybean paste, which contributes to its sweet and savory taste. Find gluten free hoisin sauce here

    Gluten Free Asian Foods

Sesame Oil: Sesame oil is an edible vegetable oil derived from sesame seeds, which are the seeds of the Sesamum indicum plant. It is commonly used in Asian cuisines, particularly in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Indian dishes. There are two primary types of sesame oil: toasted sesame oil and untoasted (or raw) sesame oil.

Rice Noodles: Rice noodles are a type of noodle made from rice flour, water, and sometimes other ingredients. They are a popular staple in many Asian cuisines, including Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Malaysian dishes. Rice noodles are gluten-free, making them suitable for those with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease.

Unfortunately a lot of the classic Chinese cuisine or Chinese restaurants offerings that you may be used to ordering (chow mein, egg roll, spring rolls, etc) are not gluten free. However, there are ways to make Chinese chicken or crispy chilli beef gluten free. A lot of the ingredients such as brown rice, tapioca starch, white rice, green onions, and rice flour are naturally gluten free. You can make easy and delicious recipes and gluten free Chinese food recipes (as well as other gluten free Asian recipes) that are as good as local takeaway at home.

Tips for Gluten Free Asian Recipes

The best strategy for making the best gluten-free recipes is making sure that you use top quality ingredients. Most mainstream grocery stores should carry most common Asian ingredients. If not you can always find substitutes online.

Remember when making an easy weeknight dinner or making your favorite dishes, those on a very strict gluten-free diet need to always be careful of what they are using in their ingredients. The first thing you should always do is read the ingredient label and check for wheat flour. Make sure your ingredients use gluten free flour, or simply that the food does not contain gluten.
